What is an Ambassador?

What is an ambassador? 

An ambassador is a person, a friend of authority.  He is a servant of the government in a foreign land.  He is not free to set his own policies or develop his own message.  In the same way as followers of Jesus Christ are called to live under the authority of God and the authority of the Scriptures.  We are servants.  We must live under the authority of the Word of God.  We are called not to do our will, but Christ’s.

What does it mean to live under the authority of the Word of God?  

First of all, it means that we live under the authority of God in our personal lives.  “Be ye holy as I am holy” (Leviticus 20:7), say the Scripture.  We are to be holy people of God.  We are to live what we preach in our personal lives – a disciplined devotional life.  The world today is looking for holy men and women to live under the authority of the Word of God.  They’re not going to listen to what we say unless we back it up with the way we live in our personal relationships.

Secondly, we are under the authority of the Word of God in our social relationships as well.  As Christians we are not isolated persons.  We are part of society with all of its difficulties and problems and hope.  The Bible has much to say about social justice and social actions.  This is a difficult area.  The Christians knows this.  Human society is affected by sin, and we know that any effort we make to improve society will always be incomplete and imperfect.  We are not going to build a Utopia on earth.  Why? . . . because of human nature of course.  Sin keeps us from building a paradise eon earth.

But we are to work for social justice – that is our command in Scripture – we’re to do all we can so that we can live a peaceable and free life, and a life of human dignity.  Only Christ can change hearts, but that does not mean that we neglect social and political responsibilities.  Christ is concerned about the whole man, including the society in which He lives.  Many of the social reforms of the nineteenth century worldwide were inspired by evangelical Christians.  But the time came when many forgot that the Gospel was both vertical and horizontal.  This is rapidly changing now.  Evangelicals are once again proclaiming a balanced gospel of personal salvation on the one hand and social responsibility on the other.

Thirdly, we are under authority in our service.  It is God who has called us to serve.  We are not free to choose the place or the manner in which we will serve Him.  I am always amazed at the variety of gifts that God has given to the church.  Every person has been given a gift from God.  You may be a farmer, or a laborer, or a doctor, or a professor, but you have been given a gift of the Holy Spirit.  Paul says: “stir up the gift that is within you” (2 Timothy 1:6).  Each of us is to put his gift into action for God.

Beloved friends,

Proverbs 22: 6 - "Teach a youth about the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it” . . . one of many assurances that God gave us for our children here in Kanthararom.

 

August was a busy month with us.    On the contrary, our program for the rest of the year will be quite busy.    All glory to God our Father for everything He brings to Frontida 0utreach.   We are so excited about everything.

 

We were in Cha Am (Southern Thailand) attending YWAM’s bi-annual National Conference.   God spoiled us in meeting many other YWAM missionaries serving in different provinces and cities in Thailand.   We could build relationships; have interaction with missionaries who also have children ministries as well as sharing new ideas and teachings of several guest speakers at the conference.   But the best part was meeting other South African missionaries involved and serving under YWAM here in Thailand.   It was wonderful to connect and have fellowship with everyone.   In general we speak English (our second language) every day with a little bit of Thai in-between – so to be able to speak “Afrikaans” solidly for four days was heavenly.  We were twelve South Africans at the conference.  Many laughs, pure South African jokes and just becoming friends were wonderful.  Praise God for the blessing.

 

 

 Back home our children ministries which include the two community schools grow stronger and stronger.   We experience the relationships that are built between ourselves and the teachers turning into “friendships” as well.   Even the children’s "openness, honesty and chats" grow every time we spend time together.  Many questions from their side about Christianity are on the table and that opens the doors for us to share the Gospel.   God's time for every conversation and outreach is just unbelievable.   All honor to Him.

 

Marina and I were on two separate outreaches this month.   Marina staffed/managed the "YWAM Outreach Hospitality House" in Chiang Mai while I and Len du Preez visited Philip van Wyk, a fellow South African missionary on Kho Phayam island in the Araman sea.   Philip is working among the  "Mokon Tribe" people.  Both of us (me and Marina) experienced insights and revelations from God for our ministry here and Kanthararom.   Sometimes God takes you away from your "comfort zone" in order for you to hear His voice in something specific.  Philip also has a children's ministry on the island.  We could delightfully share and learn from each other for both our respective ministries.

 

It is going well with "Jan's" visits in prison (Bangkok).   God uses him in an incredible way to build His church in prison.   Currently, more than 20 men spend each morning time together with Praise and Worship and Bible study.   It also goes well with "Jan's" Pastoral Studies.   I have the privilege in being “Jan’s” communication channel between himself and Hebron College in South Africa.   "Jan" writes all his assignments by hand.   He then mails it by post to me and I "scan" it and email it to Hebron.   Hebron then sends the feedback via email back to me and I print it out and post mail it to "Jan" again.   His attitude, passion and excitement to build God's church in the prison are an inspiration and example to us.   He is limited in receiving "books" for reading and reference so I "print" books by the chapter and send it as a letter to him.   God always shows various ways of how to get spiritual material to His son.   All glory to the Lord for continuing opening channels to “Jan”.

We also found a new church here in Sisaket city.   Thank God for it.   We already attended their praise and worship services and it is unbelievable to see and experience the church love for the Lord.   We donated children Bibles for their youth ministry and also provided them with spiritual material for their Sunday school classes.   We will also join the congregation with their weekly Bible study and are really looking forward to walk with the church.  All glory and honor to God.

 

Prayer requests

•              Friends, we still trust the Lord for the car we need.    We will really appreciate your prayers for His grace and provision for a car.

•              Please pray for the teenagers here in Thailand.   They experienced the same "teenage life" like any other country in the world with the exception of "immorality" that rule their life.   It is because their “religion” and “culture” allows it in some way.   We have many testimonies to share about how God works on the above but need your prayers as well.

Frontida Outreach - nuusbrief Augustus 2015

Liefste vrinne,

Spreuke 22:6 – “Gee leiding aan ‘n jongmens oor hoe hy moet leef, en hy sal ook as hy al oud is nie daarvan afwyk nie” . . . dit is bemoedigende woorde wat God ons gegee het vir ons kinders hier in Kanthararom.

 

Augustus was ‘n bedrywige maand hier by ons.   Inteendeel vir die res van die jaar is ons program nogal besig.   Alle eer aan God ons Vader vir alles wat Hy op Frontida 0utreach se pad bring.  Ons is super opgewonde oor alles.

Ons het in Cha Am (Suide van Thailand) die twee-jaarlikse YWAM Nationale Konferensie bygewoon.  God het ons bederf om vele ander YWAM sendelinge te ontmoet wat op verskillende provinsies en dorpe in Thailand bedien.  Ons kon kontakte opbou, interaksie hê met sendelinge wat ook in kinderbedieninge staan sowel as om nuwe idees en leering te kon kry van verskeie genooide sprekers tydens die konferensie.  Maar die lekkerste van alles was om al die Suid Afrikaanse sendelinge betrokke by YWAM hier in Thailand te kon sien.  Natuurlik was dit ‘n fees om met almal te kuier en te kon ‘fellowship’.  Om elke dag net Engels en bietjie Thai te praat en dan vir vier dae solied suiwer “Afrikaans” te kon praat die hele dag was hemels gewees.  Daar was 12 Suid Afrikaners gewees.  Lekker gelag en gesels en vriendskapsbande verdiep.

 

Ons kinderbedieninge hier by die huis en by die twee gemeenskapskole groei al sterker en sterker.  Ons ervaar die verhoudinge wat gebou word raak vriendskappe met die onderwysers en die kinders se “openlikheid, eerlikheid en geselsies aanknoop” gebeur weekliks.  Baie vra word gevra oor Christenskap en so maak die deure oop vir die deel van die Evangelie.  God se tyd vir elke geselsie en uitreik is net gelooflik.  Alle eer aan Hom.

 

 

Ek en Marina het ook twee afsonderlike uitreike gedoen die maand.  Marina het die “Outreach Hospitality House” in Chiang Mai gaan beman/bestuur terwyl ek en Len du Preez  uitgereik het na Philip van Wyk, ‘n mede Suid Afrikaanse sendeling op Kho Payam eiland in die Araman see.  Philip werk onder die “Mokon Tribe” mense.  Ek en Marina het afsonderlik in hierdie tyd  albei gelooflike tye, insigte en openbaringe van God beleef vir ons bediening hier en Kanthararom.  Soms neem God jou weg uit jou “comfort zone” om nuwe openbaringe aan jou te bring.  Philip het ook ‘n kinderbediening daar op die eiland, ek kon heerlik deel, leer en vele nuwe insigte kry vir ons bedieninge hier in Kanthararom.

 Met “Jan” se besoeke in die tronk (Bangkok) gaan dit goed.  Die Here gebruik hom op ‘n gelooflike manier om ‘n kerk in die tronk op te bou.  Hulle is nou al meer as 20 mans wat elke oggend saam stilte tyd hou en Bybelstudie doen.  Dit gaan ook goed met “Jan” se Pastorale studies.  Ek het die voorreg om al sy kommunikasie rakende sy studies met Hebron Kollege in Suid Afrika te behartig.  “Jan” skryf per hand sy take uit, pos dit na my toe en ek “scan” dit in en epos dit aan Hebron.  Hebron stuur die terugvoer en punte via epos na my toe en ek druk dit uit en pos dit aan “Jan” weer.  Sy gesindheid, passie en opgewondenheid om God se kerk op te bou in die tronk is voorwaar ‘n inspirasie en voorbeeld vir ons.  Hy is beperk om “boeke” te ontvang vir lees en naslaan so ek “druk” boeke per hoofstuk uit en pos dit as ‘n brief vir hom.  So wys die Here verskeie maniere uit hoe om Geestelike materiaal by Sy seun uit te kry.  Alle eer aan die Here vir oop kananle.

Ons het ook op ‘n nuwe kerk afgekom in Sisaket stad.  Prys die Here vir dit.  Ons hetal van hulle eredienste begin bywoon en dit is gelooflik om die gemeente se liefde vir die Here te sien en te ervaar.  Ons het vir die jeug elkeen ‘n Thai kinderbybel geskenk en ook Geestelike materiaal voorsien vir hul Sondagskool klasse.  Ons sal by die gemeente inskakel met hulle weeklikse Bybelstudie en sien regtig uit daarna om n pad saam met die gemeente te stap waarvan die Here ons alreeds vooruit is.

Gebedsversoeke:

•             Vrinne, ons vertrou nogsteeds op God vir die motor wat ons benodig.   Ons sal julle gebede vir Sy guns en voorsiening regtig waardeer.

•             Bid asseblief vir die tieners hier in Thailand.  Hulle ervaar maar dieselfde “tiener lewe” soos enige ander land in die wereld met uitsondering van “immoraliteit’ wat maar heers as gevolg van hul geloof wat dit toelaat.  Ons het vele getuienisse om te deel oor bg oor hoe God aan die werk is met die tieners maar het julle gebede nodig vir hulle.
